Wk 4: Editing

I think for me this was the most enjoyable part of making the film. The editing process requires great attention to detail in order to make the end product consistent and entertaining. However during edition we also discovered the importance of making sure continuity exists while filming as it then has consequences during the editing process. In our first round of editing we did notice some inconsistencies in things such as the positioning of objects. It was interesting to see how even the smallest difference whilst filming can have such a large impact on the quality of the film.

I think the main obstacle in our editing will be creating smooth transitions from one shot to another. In our filming we have quite a few short takes, this again has consequences for the editing process in try to making the film not seem "jumpy". The next obstacle will be choosing the best shots to reduce the time of the film down to 1min without losing anything crucial to the story line.

Film making is a complex process but one that I know students will thoroughly enjoy. Just as all other branches of creatice arts, media arts and film making allows the student to express themselves in a way that is not traditional. Many children in todays society do not learn through simply reading and writing but need to be able to interact with something and physically engage their senses in their learning. Media arts fits those needs perfectly.
